Welcome to Crimsworth

Crimsworth Farm is an old Yorkshire farmhouse (circa 1720) in Pecket Well, about 1000 feet up and fairly open to the wind and weather. We have been here for 8 years, gradually expanding our vegetable garden and becoming more self-sufficient.

We recently discovered the considerable health benefits of sauerkraut, and how nice a raw organic crunchy version tastes. Cabbage grows well on our land and it seemed sensible to find a way to use more of it. After much positive feedback from friends, we're now selling our sauerkraut locally.

We've also diversified into hummus, and this year we're having a go at growing our own chick peas - but we don't expect to harvest any great quantities!

Finally gave up on the chick peas. The plants were lovely, delicate frondy leaves, quite bushy, with little white flowers, but they never produced any peas. Well, it was a rubbish year for growing anything, maybe we'll try again!.

Much sympathy for everyone in Hebden who got so badly flooded. Up here we have new springs coming up all over the place, and the allotment is very waterlogged, the swedes and cabbages are growing in a lake!

We have been awarded a 4 star hygiene rating ("very good") from a Calderdale Council Food Safety Inspection ('Scores on the Doors').
